Here you go, we hope it’s helpful: handy printables with keyboard shortcuts

After we shared one shortcut with you as a Tip in the previous VX Update, we received several questions about it. Didn't we have a handy list somewhere...? But of course, we have! At VX we love keyboard shortcuts: you save time (and believe us: it adds up) and reduce the risk of developing repetitive strain injury (RSI). Sounds good, right? That’s why you’ll find 2 printables at the bottom of this article: one with a list of all keyboard shortcuts and a shortened version with our 7 favorite shortcuts in Post-It format; handy as a cheat sheet for your laptop.

A brief reminder: what’s a keyboard shortcut?

A keyboard shortcut is a combination of keys that you hold down simultaneously when you would otherwise use your mouse. Very well-known combinations are, for example, [CTRL] + [C] and [CTRL] + [V] (for copying and pasting text, images, etc.), but there are many more! You can also perform these actions with your mouse, but using keyboard shortcuts has several advantages:

3 reasons why (almost) everyone loves keyboard shortcuts

  • We already mentioned it and it's already in the name: keyboard shortcuts are fast. You can work up to 30% faster with keyboard shortcuts compared with using your mouse.
  • Using keyboard shortcuts is less stressful on your wrist, compared to the same action with your mouse. This makes it a smart and simple way to prevent RSI.
  • You learn shortcuts quickly and easily and thanks to our muscle memory you’ll not quickly forget them (it's like riding a bike).

Just for you: 2 times [CTRL] + [P]
We know you can Google the keyboard shortcuts, but you don't always have time for that during work. That's why we made you 2 printables: one with a list of all combinations and a cheat sheet in Post-It format with the 7 shortcut keyboard combinations that we use the most. We've already seen the latter placed on the back of someone's phone. We think that's a great idea, so take advantage of it!
